You’ve probably heard the saying, “Persistence pays;” and everyone knows that “Patience is a virtue.” But what do these things have to do with the Law of Attraction? Persistence and patience may sound like opposites; but, with the Law of Attraction, they both could lead to exactly the same outcome.
Persistence is the obvious key to success in any endeavor; this theme is illustrated throughout history with axioms such as, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again,” “Keep your eyes on the prize,” and a new “favorite” of many Americans: “Stay the course.” It should be obvious that stopping short of your destination isn’t the quickest way to get there.
But sometimes rushing headlong down the path of activity and effort is not the best course, either. “Some things,” as they say, “just take time.” A chicken egg is ready to open, for instance, when it hatches; and opening a cocoon early will not result in a more beautiful butterfly. By acting too much, too hastily, or without rest, we keep the mind agitated and limit the influx of inspiration, ideas, and guidance that would make our path easier. An agitated mind also creates less-than-perfect performance when you do act.
It is said that God sends you money in the form of ideas; and that, if your ship is going to come in, it will only do so if the waters are calm. Calming your mind – by learning and cultivating patience and non-attachment – will allow the unimpeded flow of new insight and information. And, a calm mind leads to a calm body; so, any actions you are inspired to take will naturally produce better results than those you force yourself to take.
If you’re doing what you love, you are already successful; if you keep doing it, you will become more and more proficient as you become more and more like that you have chosen to become. Gandhi said that, “Man often becomes what he thinks himself to be;” which is exactly why we should follow this other gem of wisdom by the great Hindu sage: “Become the change you seek…” Think about what you want; and be persistent in your thoughts. But take time to rest, relax, and listen to the inspiration and guidance that naturally follows any focused thought.
If you remember the story of “The Little Engine that Could,” you may realize that the Little Engine’s focus on his desire of reaching the top of the hill – as affirmed by its constant reminders (“I think I can…I know I can…”) – created an attractive force that overcame the attractive force of gravity and brought the Little Engine face-to-face with its desire to reach the top.
Verily, I say to you, the Little Engine could; and so can you. If you really want something, keep your mind focused on it and never give-up on your dreams; always be persistent with your thoughts and relaxed and patient about the outcome. You can attract anything you want if you don’t need it so badly the “not-having” of it causes you anxiety or stress; and, if you are diligent with your affirmative thoughts of positive expectancy, you’ll be happy and healthy no matter how long it takes to attract the experience you seek.
